…
I’m so sorry it’s been so long since my last post.
When I began this newsletter, I had lofty ambitions for myself. I wanted to do a comprehensive and exhaustive review of living systems beyond the scope of my research. I wanted to dig deep into both the mathematical and biological theory behind them. And I wanted every post I wrote to be meticulously expressed, accessible and compelling to a wide variety of audiences (from my family to my colleagues).
Because my expectations for each post were so high and demanded so much extra work, naturally I never got around to writing anything at all. On top of doing research, writing papers, presenting at conferences, applying for postdoc positions, and finally — finally — wrapping up my PhD after five and a half years, the activation energy required to even open Substack was simply too high.
I’ve wondered many times over the last two years whether I should give this newsletter up. Delete the page, start fresh. Yet, I couldn’t bring myself to pull the plug. I knew I wanted to get back to it someday, but reorient the scope so it would be easier for me to write regularly.
For now, all I will say is that this newsletter will simply be my thoughts. I have many on the idea of “cellular mathematics”. Expect shorter, more frequent posts coming soon.
I think this will be a fantastic Substack, glad you haven’t pressed delete!
Excited to get your posts Sabina!!
